Job Description

The Development Director/Community Relations Manager is responsible for building and executing the fundraising plan for the annual funding of the organization’s programming and operational budget and providing staff support. Works under the general supervision of the Executive Director, who defines overall objectives to be achieved. Work is reviewed for conformance to established policies and procedures, feasibility, compatibility with goals, guidelines, and effectiveness in achieving intended objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Cultivating Relations and Engagement

  • Attend business and organization meetings to represent the art center.

  • Cultivate new relations.

  • Performs public relations activities to effect and improve understanding by the public and the Center’s objectives and achievements.

    Strategic Planning

  • Conceives strategies and implements programs which will identify and develop new prospective donors for solicitation. Focus on individuals, foundations, corporations, organizations, and schools.

  • Write and execute grants.

  • Evaluates the strategies employed to solicit current gifts with the goal of increasing efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Design and create an annual theme and message plan designed to meet or exceed fundraising goals for business, foundations, individuals, government, and other funding sources.

    Donor Management

  • Assess the current donor base then plan and implement programs to cultivate unrealized potential.

  • Create and implement strategies to engage existing donors to support the Annual Fund campaign.

  • Manage donor database and prepare end of year tax letters, in-kind letters, thank you letters, etc.

  • Ensures the proper keeping of donor and event records.

  • Directs the activities of individual giving and marketing special events. Assures that these areas grow in revenues according to plan.

  • Identify prospective donors and secure financial support from individuals, foundations, corporations, government sources and grant funding for the Annual Fund.

    Fundraising

  • Develop and execute center’s annual fundraising plan under the supervision of the Executive Director.

  • Train volunteers in fundraising procedures and practices.

  • Arrange, organize, and manage all files pertaining to fundraising.

  • Proofread and correct all fundraising correspondence as needed.

    Other Duties

  • Ensure that all legal reporting requirements are satisfied under the direction of the Executive Director.

  • Complete all other assignments as required by the Executive Director.

  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

  • Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus four years’ professional experience in arts administration or event/production management, at a public or private arts agency or organization.

  • General knowledge of art disciplines, trends, and their methods of operation.

  • Exercise of discretion and independent judgment is required to perform assigned duties.

Terms

  • Full time

  • Salary: $38,000 - $45,000

  • Variable shift pattern between Monday through Sunday with evening, weekend and holiday working as required.

Additional Information

Work is typically performed in an office setting. You will be required to visit other locations and program sites.
