Lumen Printing

Lumen printing is a photographic technique that uses sunlight to create images on silver gelatin photographic paper. This process involves placing objects, often organic materials like leaves or flowers, on the paper and exposing it to the sun. This workshop will cover the process from start to finish.

From mixing the required chemistry, planning out your print, exposure techniques, analog manipulation techniques, and processing your final piece.

Experiment with various photo papers and objects and bear witness to the magic and surprising results this process has to offer.

Lumen printing is both a creative and historical process, originating from William Henry Fox Talbot's early photogenic drawing experiments. It provides endless artistic potential and is a fun, simple activity.

You can view a selection of Kaitlyn Danielson’s lumen printing artworks on exhibition starting May 10th.
